Abstract:
Inheriting the tradition of Yuan Dynasty, “Confucian clan” as authentic, occupational imperial family enjoying the special protection policies in early Ming, has a significant advantage in imperial examinations. Whether to prepare for the family education fully, especially, to excel at one classical study, should be the direct factor to form an imperial family. Succeeding in imperial examinations frequently by the Book of Changes in Ming, Young clan of Ningbo has reproduced the myth of “family classical study” since the Eastern Han. The fierce competition in those examinations also affects the success rate of family as the core factor. Young’s competitiveness has declined markedly after late Ming Dynasty. It becomes even more difficult for small family ill-prepared in late Ming, for instance, Zhao Weihuan was from Pinghu, Jiaxing, whose ten exams totally ended in failure.
