　　摘要：女权主义在当今世界的影响力都是不容忽视的。女权主义发端于西方国家，20 世纪波及到全世界，以追求男女平等为其理论体系的核心范畴。本文通过分析《一报还一报》，《帕梅拉》，《法国中尉的女人》，《野草在歌唱》中的女主角，提出女性应该争取平等，实现自我价值。

　　Abstract：The influence of Feminism can not be ignored in this world. Feminism started from western countries and spread to the world in 20th century ， an equality between male and female as its theory’s core domain. According to the analysis of Measure for Measure， Pamela， The French Lieutenant’s Woman， The Grass is Singing ，we advocate that female should pursue the equality and realize their self value.

　　1. What factors make women suffer？
　　In Measure for Measure，the conflict between Isabella and Angelo is based on the completely different and discrepant values and standpoint，while this apparent contradiction makes the conflict between Isabella and the Duke invisible and vague.Undoubtedly it is the Duke who saves Isabella’s virginity and protects her brother from sentencing.Nevertheless，the Duke just regards Isabella as a tool and pleases her by some painful ways，such as in ACTIV SCENEIII“The tongue of Isabella .She’s come to know if yet her brother’s pardon be come hither；But I will still keep her ignorant of her good，To make her heavenly conforts of despair，When it is least expected ”.What’s more，the success of plan depends on whether Isabella is willing to give up her reputation and do what the Duke said.Before everything coming out in the wash，the Duke insults and wrongs her by all means.
　　Although Isabella impresses us as a brave and dauntless woman image，her success lies in another man-the Duke.In the first part of the play，Isabella is shining due to her fight with Angelo.In the wake of the Duke，she suffers an eclipse and is controlled by the Duke.As a result ，we can see that women adhere themselves to men，which makes women tragic in some sense.
　　The weakness of women is not the only elements which make them suffer，but also the double standard，as shown in the Pamela.Mr. B is generous but leading a dissipated life，but nobody judges him and even show their respect to him.On the contrary， Pamela regards chastity as the supreme virtue of a woman. She tries every means to defend for her chastity. When confronted with sexual advance， she makes promises to show her resolution to be virtuous. Besides， Pamela’s chastity value can be understood better with the requirement for women’s being virginal in the eighteenth century England.In the male-dominated society， the feminine chastity which reflects men’s will is easier for the reader to accept.This view of chastity with sexual discrimination not only influences the judgment of men ，showing in the book “it is natural for masters and their sons to regard their servants as sexually available. .Once compensations are made， none will be hurt”， but also is accepted by women.We can come to a conclusion from the decision Pamela made，that is ，without any postponement she made up her mind to marry Mr.B who may have some problem in the chastity.

    　In short ，the weakness of women and double standard lead to the pathetic situation for the female.
　　2. How to improve the situation？
　　When I think about it， I draw my inspiration from The French Lieutenant’s Woman.In the preface of this novel，John Fowles declares，”Actually ， the theme of oy novel is how a humble woman obtain her freedom in a completely unfree society”.In the novel ，the construction of the theme is embodied in the never-ending pursuit of freedom by the protagonist一Sarah and there are several choices Sarah has made in order to pursue freedom.Sarah pretends to be the French lieutenant’s woman to reject socialization， but later she finds her own role in society. At last， Sarah refuses to be anyone’s wife，which is the role given by patriarchal society，declaring her independence and autonomy.In the male-dominated society ，man is regarded more stronger than woman in intelligence and body.However ，in The French Lieutenant’s Woman，Sarah is the manipulator and also the leader who help Charles realize the understanding of existential freedom.
　　Therefore，I think Isabella and Pamela should take Sarah as example and try to say “no” to their marriage in order that they can pursue social freedom and existential freedom which are deprived from women in the patriarchal society.To be “a mad woman in the attic” is better than “an angel in the house”， because at least a mad woman follows her heart and live for theirselves and realize self value，unlike “an angle” trapped in the house，where the only thing she can do is to obey.
