A good works of literature can be analyzed from different angle. Different people have different opinions. Some scholars analyze the story from ecofeminism，ecocriticism and initiation.
　　Others consider it from symbolic meanings of name or color，rhetoric，even linguistics. No matter what they analyze this novel from，they all attach more importance to the ralationship between human being and nature. And there is an unnamed young man ，an ornithologist ，in the short novel criticized by other scholars as a negative character for killing animals and destroying the environment. However，in my opinion，we would find many shining advantages that the unnamed young man has if we ignored the ecological problem. I’ll present them from a positive angle in detail as follows：
　　About the whistle.Sylvia meets with the handsome young man in woods for the first time because of the whistle from him. Jiang Hongyu stated,”Male is the governor and aggressor of female and nature .”［1］and she thoght that the whistle was aggressive and considered the young man as the enemy of the woods. In my viewpoint，it is not aggressive noise but agreeable voice which comes from the inner heart after breathing the fresh air in woods and enjoying the beautiful natural scenery.
　　About the grandmother’s story. When the grandmother talks the sad story about her family，the guest does not notice this hint of family sorrows in his eager interest in something else. Wen Chixin reviewed,”He is insensitive and has no sympathy for the old lady .”At this point，I disagree with him. First of all，the young man has a special identity——an ornithologist，a scientist who studies birds，therefore，he must concentrate on what he studies and what he is interested in. In the second place，one who insists on pursuing his target，he will lay some stress on what he learns about rather than he will know everything around him. In the end，he has a crazy love for science as well as Sylvia loves nature. So it is natural for him to pay more attention to his eager interest rather than the grandmother’s family story. It is turned out that he is an ambitious young man. 　About money and time.As the young man learns how knowledgeable Sylvia is，he offers her ten dollars to help him find the heron and means to spend his whole vacation hunting for the heron if need be. Tang Jiannan commented,”The young man does everything he can by hook to satisfy his selfish desire and in his mind，money is everything .”As for this point，I have to say,”No pains，no gains.” What’s more，it is an unchangeable fact that substance is the basis of human being’s existence，when one wants to achieve his goal，he will pay for it either in substance or in spirit. To obtain the information about the white heron，the young man would like to pay Sylvia 10 dollars and to spend his whole vacation in looking for it，which shows us he is an ambitious man who has pursuit. No matter how difficult the process is and no matter what he should pay during the process，money or time，he always sticks to his pursuit. Besides，he has made great efforts to master a lot of knowledge about birds well，and it is also a good example of showing us his perseverance in ideal.
　　About the relationship between science and nature.The young man talks about his own hunting，not for food，but for specimens for his collection. He Ying said，“What he does is just to reach his achievement in collecting birds specimens and to show off. ”However，his collecting specimens is not for appreciating by himself or showing off but for scientific research. Science and nature are not opposed to each other but interactional relationship. Nature offers the needed materials of the scientific research to scientists，meanwhile，she benefits from the achievemens of science. In a word，science plays an active role in protecting natural environment and promoting social development. From the above mentioned，we can draw a conclusion that the young man’s behaviour has its own active meaning. That is，having collecting many birds specimens，the young man maters a lot of knowledge about birds very well，which is good for passing down the birds knowledge from generation to generation.
　　About the little girl’s initiation.Professor Jin Li claimed，“ Climbing up the top of the huge pine tree and looking for the white heron are the little heroine Sylvia’s journey from innocence to maturity .”But what is it that drives her to do this? It is so dangerous and adventurous for her to mount to the top of it. Where is her courage from? If she didn’t have a crush on the charming and delightful young man，how could she have the courage to mount to the top of the huge pine tree? However，she likes him and wants to make him happy，so she determines to make the adventure for him.
　　Owing to the above mentioned reasons，although many scholars criticized him as a negative character，I decide to say something for the unnamed young man from a positive angle. In my personal view，he is an ambitious young man who has a long-range ideal.
